First held in 1980, the Monroe County Watermelon Festival has become one of the largest festivals in the area attracting more than 10,000 people to Tompkinsville in historic Monroe County.

The Monroe County Watermelon Festival is held annually on the Saturday prior to Labor Day in downtown Tompkinsville. The festivities include 150 vendors selling arts and crafts, commercial items and food, parade, quilt show, car show, and antique tractors, and more.
